ICMSA calls for better farm safety

THE year-on-year death toll on farms has not changed over the past 15 years, despite the huge fall in the numbers farming, according to the ICMSA.

Conor Creedon, Farms Services and Environment Committee chairman, said: “The age structure in agriculture and the mounting workload on farmers are being described as the main contributors to the stagnation of the number of serious accidents and fatalities.”

He urged all farmers to adopt the Health and Safety Authority catch phrase of ‘spot and sort’ hazards in an effort to reduce the number of accidents and deaths.
