Three for ICMSA job
Co Cork has now fielded a second man to contest the hurling-style clash between Tipperary and Cork for the leadership of the organisation for the next two years.
Joe Fitzgerald, Killeagh, has confirmed he is seeking election in the National Council ballot on December 20.
Already declared for the contest were Jackie Cahill, Tipperary, outgoing Deputy President, and Dominic Cronin, North Cork, currently Chairman of ICMSA's National Dairy Committee.
It had been expected that one of the two Corkmen would contest the election, but the decision of both to go forward has caused some surprise, and complicated the task for the 80-plus members of National Council who will vote in the election.
Joe Fitzgerald has been a member of the National Council for most of two decades, on the ICMSA Dairy Committee for more than a decade, and on the association's Administrative Executive for the past six years.
He has represented ICMSA on the Board of Teagasc for the past five years.
With a third candidate, the election will now almost certainly go to a second count, instead of a straight head to head single count, and the transfer of votes will become the crucial decider.
