NEW taxes are on the way that could spell doom for some in the food industry.

THE IFA claims Glanbia and Kerry undershot the 3c/l milk price increase it feels was due for February.

MILK price increases announced by a number of co-ops have been welcomed by the Irish Farmers Association.

A CRISIS meeting between dairy farmers and Dairygold took place last night where farmers pleaded with the dairy giant to reverse milk price cuts which made dairying uneconomic.

LAKELAND, Connacht Gold and Arrabawn Co-op cut their August milk prices, but most co-ops left prices unchanged, according to IFA. Northern and western co-ops have cut prices by about 9c per litre this year, while most other co-ops took about 6c off prices.

IFA president Padraig Walshe said the decision made yesterday by the Glanbia board to reverse the 1.32c/l (6c/gal) price cut implemented last August by the Plc, and to hold that price until March, vindicated the IFA’s analysis of markets as highlighted by the National Dairy Committee in recent months.
