€1,000 for Macroom Champion

Marts: A 530kg Belgian Blue weanling bull won the overall championship of the show at the annual weanling show and sale at Macroom and later sold for €1,000.

A good entry of quality stock for the annual event was rewarded with prices of up to €545 over €/kg being paid for choice continental weanling bulls. Prices ranged from €180 over. Non continental breed bulls ranged €110 over to €375 over. Continental weanling heifers made €95 over to €290 over and non continentals sold at €50 to €155 over.

A Belgian Blue weighing 435kg sold for €700, another scaling 390kg made €680, a Limousin weighing 400kg fetched €680 and a lot of four Simmentals weighing 412kg made €560. Bulls were improved by up to €40/head at Kilmallock Mart, while the shippers were capping the heifer prices at €100 over €/kg.
