Milk quota could boost farm value by more than €1 million

lMeanwhile, interest has been brisk for a 112-acre farm at Caherduggan, in Doneraile, which will go for auction on March 15 in Springfort Hall.
The property, which was released on the market last month, is a mile and half from Newtwopothouse on the Cork-Limerick road. The timing of the auction during Cheltenham week may be appropriate, because this property has a significant horse-breeding pedigree.
It was home to many fine, racehorses, including Beau Ranger, a 19-times winner, including the Mackeson Gold Cup at Cheltenham twice, and was third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1988. Beau Ranger was bred on this farm.
Horse breeding and training is still a significant industry locally, says Mr McCarthy, making the farm suitable for an equestrian enterprise.
It’s also perfect for tillage and grass, he says, and the large, bungalow residence is perfect for a family.
The farm has eight stables, a tack room, workshop, barn and lean-to at the rear, as well as other ancillary buildings.
