Cork horse breeders tops at Ballinasloe

THE horse showing season came to a spectacular conclusion for Co Cork breeders and exhibitors at Ballinasloe Show, where they won the three All-Ireland titles on the programme.

The top prize in the €2,500 Gain Colt Foal final went to Kieran Fahey, Maulbrack, Enniskeane, with Derek Rothwell, Tinahely, Co Wicklow, taking the reserve rosette.

It was a well contested final, with 24 of the 28 qualifiers from shows around the country turning up.

Michael White, Rosscarbery, took the main prize in the €2,000 All Ireland Irish Draught colt foal final, which had another quality line up. Pat Lennon, Glasson, Athlone, showed the reserve champion.

There was also an excellent turnout in the €2,000 All Ireland Draught filly foal championships, with the top prize going to Patrick Hennessy, Skeaf East, Timoleague, with a foal by Welcome Diamond (RID) out of Suma Opposition (RID) by Glenaygle Rebel (RID).

Owen Griffin, Cloonacauneen, Claregalway, Co Galway, took the reserve rosette, with a foal by Carrabawn View (RID), out of Cloonacauneen Lady (RID) by Grey Macha (RID).

The Irish Horse Board, which recognises that quality Irish Draught horses are important elements for the future of the Irish sport horse industry, offered premiums of €150 to each exhibitor in the filly foal final.
