Teagasc reviews training schemes
It will be carried out against the background of the major changes taking place in agricultural policy and the impact these changes will have on the education and training needs of young entrants to agriculture, horticulture and the agri-food sector as well as the ongoing training needs of adult farmers.
The review will be conducted under the auspices of the Teagasc Education and Training Forum, chaired by Professor John Coolahan of NUI Maynooth and includes representatives of the major education providers, government department and rural organisations.
Teagasc training and development services director Donal Carey said it would play a key role in shaping education and training programmes over the next decade.
“Continuing changes in the structure of farming and rural areas, combined with changing lifestyle choices, will require new courses and new methods of delivery. Teagasc is committed to responding to these new demands and looks forward to acting on the outcome of the review,” he said.
