Welcome for machine beef grades

A NEW conformation and fat 15 point scale will replace the existing EUROP cattle carcase grading system, according to Irish Cattle and Sheepfarmers Association suckler chairman Frank Kehoe.

He said, “I am delighted that the Department has delivered on the ICSA suckler committee recommendation that, under mechanical grading, the wide variation of cattle within the same grade is reflected more accurately”.

“This wider grading interpretation will reduce the margin of error and allow a pricing structure which rewards better cattle within grades.”
