Impressive draught horses

THE Irish Draught Horse Society Show at Thurles was an impressive turn-out for a breed officially designated as endangered.

Some 170 horses were entered in 20 classes, and particularly high quality standards were noted in the two-year-old filly, yearling colt, brood mare and loose jumping sections.

MAIN RESULTS:

All Ireland mare - John Dillon, Cooraclare, Co Clare. Reserve - Sean Colhoun, Strabane, Co Tyrone.

All Ireland Mare of the Future - Julia Crosbie and Rebecca Osborne, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford. Reserve - Luke Morley, Knock, Co Mayo.

Young Horse - Luke Morley. Reserve - Eddie Murphy, Charlestown, Co Mayo.

All Ireland yearling colt or gelding - Seamus Sloyan, Castlerea, Co Roscommon. Reserve - Gearoid Wycherley, Kinsale.

Brood mare - Danny Molloy, Athlone. Reserve - Denis Dullea, Bandon.

Foal - Carol Dempsey, Moylough, Co Galway. Reserve - Padraig Fitzpatrick, Manorhamilton.

Hunter - Mary Ann Casey. Reserve - Ellen Hollywood.
