ICMSA has called on Commissioner for Energy Regulation Tom Reeves to reverse the decision to sanction an 8% rise in ESB charges.

Lorcan McCabe, Chairperson of ICMSA’s Farm Services and Environment Committee said the price rise, and a further 3.5% increase in January, 2005 are unacceptable to farmers, when their own future viability is so uncertain.

IFA National Industrial Committee Chairman Tom Dunne has also rejected the electricity price rise. He said it is “completely off-the-wall, and will drive inflation and costs in the economy through the roof, reversing the downward inflation trend of the last 18 months.”
