Call for end to milk quota speculation

Constant speculation and debate surrounding the future of the milk quota restructuring scheme is undermining farmers’ ability to plan for their future, a farm leader has warned.

In order to plan for their families’ futures, farmers needed certainty regarding the price of quota, said Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association dairy committee chairperson Dominic Cronin.

He called for an end to ‘pointless and damaging rumour and counter-rumour’.

Mr Cronin said the need for greater balance and fairness was the central plank of ICMSA’s policy on milk quota restructuring.
