Over 415,000 euro in prize money at Kerrygold Dublin Show
Over 1,500 horses will compete in 127 showing classes at the show which will have more than 415,000 euro in prize money and fifty-two trophies on offer.
Top riders from ten different countries will compete at the event, one of the country’s major sporting and social gatherings of the year.
Britain, Belgium, winners of the Aga Khan Trophy last year, France, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands and Ireland have entered teams for the Kerrygold Nations Cup on Friday, August 9. The richest competition at the show, the Kerrygold International Grand Prix, will have a total prize fund of 96,000 euro. The winner will take 32,000 euro.
Meanwhile, the top awards in the Macroom Mills pedigree Simmental calf championships at Carbery Show in Skibbereen went to Cork and Limerick exhibitors.
Peter and Marian O’Connell, Knopogue, Mallow, won the female championship with Tony O’Leary, Westcourt Heights, Ballincollig, having the reserve champion.
John Fox, Darragh, Kinfinane, Co Limerick won the male championship, with Peter and Marian O’Connell having the reserve.
The show calendar this weekend features events in Belturbet, Co Cavan, Jamestown, Co Leitrim, and Kilmacanogue, Co Wicklow, on Saturday, when the National Irish Draught Society Show takes place in Ennis.
On Sunday, there are shows in Ballymahon, Co Longford, Claremorris, Co Mayo and Kilgarvan, Co Kerry, while on Bank Holiday Monday, the spotlight will be on shows in Bonniconlon, Co Mayo, Castlerea, Co Roscommon, Meenacross, Co. Donegal, Nenagh, Co Tipperary and Tinahely, Co Wicklow.
