Irish Sugar to apply for rail depot

Irish Sugar has confirmed that it will lodge a planning application with Carlow County Council next Monday for the establishment of a rail depot in the county.

The company described the proposed depot as ‘a facility for loading beet on to trains, for onward transport by rail to Mallow’ in a public notice.

Chief executive Dr Sean Brady said he hopes the application is successful and the railhead be in position for this year’s beet campaign.
