Teagasc specialist Michael Hennessy and economist Fiona Thorne told the national tillage conference in Carlow that detailed analysis of the Teagasc e-profit monitor farms and data from the national farm survey has shown that only the most efficient tillage farms will have the ability to hold on to the full value of the single farm payment.

The Teagasc specialists warned a large proportion of less efficient producers will erode the value of their decoupled payment if they continue with existing production patterns.
