The fresh produce market in Ireland is worth €1.8 billion annually, according to Bord Glas.

Bord Glas chief executive, Michael Maloney said consumer confidence in the high quality of fresh produce is evidenced by the fact that fruit, vegetables and potatoes are second only to dairy products in terms of the amount consumers are spending on them.

Retail sales of fresh produce were valued at €800 million in 2002, just 6% less than dairy products with sales of €853 million.
