Liquid milk suppliers’ protest

KERRY Group liquid milk suppliers will stage a one-hour protest over price cuts at the company’s four bottling plants in Limerick (2), Galway and Killarney at noon tomorrow.

Acting chairman of the Kerry Dairies’ Advisory Committee Michael Gabbett said the suppliers stand to lose several thousands of euros immediately from an unacceptable new system.

But Kerry Group corporate affairs director Frank Hayes said the new pricing structure had to be implemented.

“Faced with falling returns and new levels of competition, we’ve had to move to a new structure in order to sustain our business and this has also to be in the interest of the supplier,” he added.
