Anne-Marie Ryan is a human resources manager and Pat Fennessy is a farmer. The other winner was Theresia Linsbod, who is also a farmer from Lough Talt, Co Sligo.

Other finalists were Sean Hynes, Strokestown, Co Roscommon, Donal Lenihan, Seandun, Co Cork, and James O’Donoghue, Castleside, Co Limerick.

The awards recognise the leadership skills of Macra members within their clubs and the wider community. It aims to raise the standard of leadership in Macra and provides an incentive to development club programmes.

This year’s six finalists were judged by a panel of experts including John Murphy, An Gaisce executive director, Fergus O’Ferrall, former Macra chief executive and Margaret Nolan of Bank of Ireland Business Banking.

GAA president Sean Kelly, who presented the awards, stressed the importance of leadership skills in today’s society.

Colm Markey, Macra president, said leadership training is a vital element of Macra. The awards recognise the achievements of club and county leaders.

Vincent Fennelly, head of Bank of Ireland Business Banking, said the awards encourage excellence by young people in their role as Macra leaders.

He said Bank of Ireland Business banking is proud to help Macra foster the leadership training of its young membership.

The three winners were presented with trophies as well as travel bursaries worth €2,000 each.
