Ireland: ICOS director general John Tyrrell has expressed surprise and disappointment at a decision by the EU Milk Management Committee to cut the aid for casein by a further 18%.

He said the decision creates greater uncertainty for casein manufacturers.

It follows the EU decision in mid-September to cut the aid at that time by 31%. “The industry needs stability of support. Instead it has suffered a significant drop in returns due to these repeated cuts in aid. The total casein aid cut during 2004 has been 57%,” he said.
