IT is going to be a challenging year for the dairy industry, the Irish Dairy Board (IDB) warned yesterday.

The IDB, which exports Irish dairy products to over 90 markets worldwide, reported that its turnover was up 4.5% to €1.976 billion and operating surplus increased 4% to €41.1m last year.

It said this was largely attributed to the worldwide success of the Kerrygold brand and the Pilgrim’s Choice brand in Britain.
