Suckler farmers ‘should be rewarded’

Modulation money should be used to reward suckler farmers who record progeny information for an ICBF bloodline collation project, according to the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association.

“The success of this project will only be achieved if participating farmers are incentivised,“ said ICSA national suckler chairman Frank Kehoe. It is ICSA policy to promote better breeding in the suckler herd by reinvesting modulation money, clawed back from drystock farmers, into that same industry under quality breeding initiatives. The systems ICBF is putting in place have the potential to revolutionise beef breeding.
