Pig prices under Teagasc spotlight

Wide variation in the price paid to producers for pigs will be one of the key topics at the Teagasc annual pig conferences next week.

Teagasc senior pig adviser Pat Tuite will outline the results of a pig price survey carried out in August, which showed a confusing range of bonuses and allowances.

The conferences in Longford on Monday, Kilkenny on Tuesday, and Kanturk on Wednesday, are taking place against a backdrop of continuing difficulty in pig meat markets. Speakers will include Olivia Slevin, Bord Bia, US pig scientist, and Malachy Young, Kansas State University.
