Unions committed to Croke Park deal

I DIDN’T agree with the conclusions in your two-page feature on the Croke Park agreement (April 13). But the Irish Examiner is to be congratulated on a rare attempt to put the debate into some context for readers, and to report on the agreement’s achievements as well as its shortcomings.

Public service must be kept public

STRONG language is being bandied about by the Government on the need for immediate change in the running of the public service.

Don’t send our greyhounds to China

I AM writing to express both my concern and opposition to the proposal of the Irish Greyhound Board to send greyhounds to China.

Lack of understanding
IT is to be hoped that those putting the 1926 census online and also those dealing with the 2011 census are conversant with the Irish language.

Gang violence spoils visit to Cork

HAVING visited Cork recently, I was struck by the beauty of the place, the energy and enthusiasm of the young people and the general buzz and happy feeling around.

It’s hard to forget British sins of the past

IS there anyone out there who feels like me? All the PC brigade will frown, but this upcoming royal visit sticks in my craw. I’ve heard all the “build a bridge and get over it” comments and how friendly and different things are now and history should be left in the past, but I still cannot swallow it.

Time to tame hogweed scourge

IT is shameful that the agri-industry is doing nothing to control the giant hogweed epidemic that is destroying our riverbanks and will do huge damage to our rural economy.
