IN the light of the findings of the Cloyne Report the Irish Government should do the honourable thing and (a) break off diplomatic relations with the Vatican and (b) expel the Papal Nuncio.

THE kneejerk reaction of the Government to the Cloyne Report and their intention to bring a bill to the Dáil, forcing priests to report to the gardaí incidents of child abuse heard during the sacrament of confession, just shows how this government misunderstands the purpose of the sacrament.

WITH regard to the “elderly nun” referred to in your editorial (July 15) did you stop and ask her was she aware of even the slightest hint of the sexual, physical, emotional and mental abuse that went in at all levels of the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland.
