THE recent Fr Reynolds scandal must be a relief for the Catholic Church.

YOUR teacher letter writer November 23 correctly worries about the impending cuts in education and the impact that it will have on our children’s education.
CERTIFICATE of “Corkness” is a good idea.
IT appears extra cuts will be made to the ordinary working peoples’ income, by increasing VAT, a regressive tax that hurts the poorest the most and hardly hurts the well-off at all.
KILLIAN Brennan’s complaints about the German Bundestag hearing about our budget proposals in advance should be examined in a bit more detail (Letters, November 23).
I WISH you’d stop repeating the myth that replacing garda drivers with civilian ones saved money (Opinion, November 21).

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with the statement in Maurice Fitzgerald’s offensive letter, “Students should just stick to lectures” (November 22).
IF the Catholic community in Ireland wish to have an embassy in Rome why don’t you have a church gate collection to pay for it?
I EXPECT Government TDs will break a new speed of light record on Budget Day next month as they scurry from the justifiably increasing raging populous if they vote for the ‘’leaked cuts’’ in health and social welfare.
I CANNOT understand the proposal to increase the standard rate of Vat from 21% to 23% as this 2% increase will directly costs jobs.
