Arrogance or generosity?

KILLIAN Brennan’s complaints about the German Bundestag hearing about our budget proposals in advance should be examined in a bit more detail (Letters, November 23).

Arrogance or generosity?

That happened because we, in common with the people of Greece, Portugal and Italy, had governments which presided over policies that bankrupted or near bankrupted our countries. As a result, we are depending on other countries in Europe to keep the holes in the wall open. What Mr Brennan sees as the “arrogance” of these countries, they see as generosity by their taxpayers. When someone else is paying the piper they tend to have some influence on calling the tune.
