The article by Tony Humphreys claiming that autism is caused by “cold” or emotionally distant parents, displays such willful ignorance, lack of understanding and density of inaccurate and offensive statements that it is shocking that the Irish Examiner would publish it.

I am writing regarding Friday’s article on autism.

Never before have I been accused of emotionally abusing my children in a national newspaper.

I have never written to a newspaper before but Mr Humphreys’ article on February 3 entitled ”Core connection” was so horrendously insulting and hurtful that I feel compelled to respond.

I sincerely hope that you are able to publish a response to Dr Humphreys’s piece on ASD and Asperger’s in last Friday’s Feelgood.

Credit due to Tony Humphreys for illuminating the fallacies and foibles of the diagnostic presumptions which engulf autistic spectrum discourse.
