With reference to the article “Pair arrested after digging €1.25m cash out of Limerick field” (Irish Examiner, Dec 16) we learn that two men were arrested during the operation.

I recently travelled to Ireland with my wife, son and daughter-in-law. It had been six years since my wife had been to Ireland.

Over the past few weeks we have learnt of the horrific cruelty inflicted on a number of Irish horses that subsequently resulted in their deaths. Who could fail to be moved by the distressing picture of the horse in Wicklow lying on the ground, legs broken after a severe beating, eventually euthanised while her foal stood nearby?

I was disgusted to hear Michael Noonan recently utter that despicable phrase “go mad” that was used by FF to implicate us all in the disasters that brought the country to its knees.

While watching Leinster v Northampton in the Aviva stadium on Dec 14 I witnessed something that astonished me.

Victoria White says that she believes that ‘when it has come to it, our politicians have tried to do right by us’ by not defaulting at the time of the bailout (Opinion, Dec 12).

The slogan ‘full employment’ is being dangled again.

Exiting the bailout is possibly an opportunity rather than a conclusion (Irish Examiner, Dec 14).

I always have great faith in the generosity of people. This faith was enhanced by an experience I had on Thursday, Dec 12.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan said “we can’t go mad again,” in relation to our economic crisis.
