Early intervention key for disabled children

Large sections of the country have no early intervention teams for children with serious disabilities, potentially hindering their development, as recently reported in the Irish Examiner by Fiachra O’Cionnaith.

GP care contract demands attention

I am quite surprised by the lack of media interest in the controversial government draft contract for providing free medical services for children under six. It is a publication of national significance as it clearly highlights how it plans to introduce free general practice services to the whole population.

Who is monitoring our personal data and how?

Our TDs, senators and media commentators are obsessed by the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission having conducted two security checks since 2005. I am appalled that it is so laid back about electronic surveillance.

1916 monument restoration welcome, but who will pay?

Media reports that the State, through Nama funding, is to preserve and restore the 1916 national monument are welcome. Under the ownership of Chartered Land, it has become derelict and endangered.

The river runs eternal, it seems
The river runs eternal, it seems

In my senior years, it is somewhat frightening to find that the “City by the Lee” continues to be devastated during spring tides by floods, not withstanding the intervening years of advances in technology and a ravaging tiger in funding availability.

Maybe politicians need to be tested like drivers
Maybe politicians need to be tested like drivers

Should the proposal to test drivers of commercial and public service vehicles for alcohol and drugs be extended to Oireachtas members? Surely running our country is as important as driving vehicles?
