New bishop reaches out, but others in the Church exhibit a mean spirit
New bishop reaches out, but others in the Church exhibit a mean spirit

We would like to congratulate the new Catholic Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, Alphonsus Cullinan, for his encouraging statement on lapsed Catholics and his wish to “reach out to those who have turned away from the practice of the faith, many of whom are in our own families and parish communities”.

Referendum is not about commercial surrogacy
Referendum is not about commercial surrogacy

Margaret Hickey wrote (Irish Examiner, April 10) that the upcoming referendum on marriage equality “is about rejecting the 21st century cruelty that denies a child a mother or a father, through surrogacy”. Perhaps Ms Hickey is getting the chance to vote in a different referendum to the rest of us?
