I refer to your report of yesterday, Tuesday, July 7, ‘Public sector sick pay cut saves €50m’, about the cost of sick leave in the public service. 

Congratulations, Greece.

The full political and economic consequences of the Greek referendum have yet to unfold. However, the speed and efficiency with which the referendum was held, was truly remarkable.

This week we saw how equal Irish society is. 

I stand accused by Dr Frank Giles (Letters, Irish Examiner, July 2) of blaming the recent Tunisian mass murders on Western foreign policy and military interventions.

The 1916 relatives are still seeking a meeting with NAMA regarding the derelict state of the 1916 national monument at 14-17 Moore Street, Dublin and their financial backing for a planning application to destroy its surrounding 1916 battlefield. To date, NAMA has refused to meet us citing the confidentiality of clients’ business affairs.

Ancient Greece led the way in the world with democracy.

The average rate of income tax levied on each euro of gross income in 2010 was 12.6 per cent.

Daniel Teegan’s claim that justice for the Palestinian people can only be achieved by the ending of Israel as a Jewish nation is not merely without empirical foundation. It also, despite his insistence, meets the EU’s definition of anti-Semitism (Irish Examiner, Letters, 4 July).

Dr Rory Hearnes’ article (Irish Examiner July 4) on the stark and brutal effects of Irish ‘austerity’ should be essential reading for all concerned Irish citizens.
