I don’t understand why newspapers publish photographs taken at funerals. However, your front page photograph on August 27 was not just unnecessary, it was an entirely inappropriate invasion of the privacy of two young children.

Saturday was the 40th anniversary of the death of Eamon de Valera.

Speakers at the annual Béal na mBláth Michael Collins commemoration should refrain from telling historical fibs like Minister for Justice, Frances Fitzgerald did this year, regarding Michael Collins and women’s rights.

I wish to comment on the articles on the ongoing reaction to Bishop Crean’s decision not to allow Fr Flannery speak at Killeagh.

To read Alison O’Connor (Irish Examiner, August 28), it would appear that the peace process started with Ahern and Blair, and because “Fine Gael did not broker this historic agreement... this will always stick in the craw of Fine Gael”. I was surprised to read such mean-minded words.

I am not a political supporter of Sinn Féin but I am a supporter of the peace process in Ireland. 

It would seem that the ballot box has become ‘too democratic’ for both the Unionists in the north and to our own government in the south.

Nick Nolan’s letter (Irish Examiner, August 28) is so true and definitely hits the hot spot. Just to quote his last paragraph.
