In response to Philip Jones (Irish Examiner, Letters, September 16), I never said there was a Muslim master-plan to take over Europe, but if Europe ignores its rapidly growing Muslim population, and opens its doors indefinitely to the peoples of the Middle East and North Africa, it is a matter of time before ‘Eurabia’ becomes reality. 

The decline of Protestants in the South was no accident before and after 1916.

Although Germany is leading the European reaction to the refugee tragedy by welcoming hundreds of thousands to its cities; the reaction of the rest of the world, most especially the United States, has been one of offering advice and criticism from afar. 

In the past few weeks, a number of reports have appeared in print and electronic media which have conveyed a misleading view of the proposals on dealing with the past contained in the Stormont House Agreement (SHA). Some of these have focused on the Independent Commission for Information Retrieval (ICIR), or on the Implementation and Reconciliation Group (IRG), which are two of four mechanisms proposed in the agreement.

As I was learning to drive, many years ago, I passed a group of girls. Naturally I looked in the rear view mirror to see if they had noticed me, macho man, driving a car, which led my instructor to snap: “Stop looking back, you’re going this way.”

Enda Kenny’s Cabinet was good at doing what the Troika told them, but they were unable to produce a credible scheme for delivering and disposing of water. Instead, they managed to create the most powerful mass anti-governmental popular movement since the ’20s, 1918 and even the Land League.

Something must be done about the blood-thirsty evil of ISIS and these religious wars between Muslims and Christians.

The lack of political leadership on the refugee crisis at a European level (‘Refugee Crisis to worsen as borders are shut’, September 15) will be a source of dismay for people across the country who had demanded a humanitarian response to a humanitarian catastrophe.
