The modern workspace has significantly shifted towards ergonomics, and adjustable standing desks have become incredibly popular. These versatile desks offer many benefits that cater to both health and productivity. By alternating between sitting and standing positions, adjustable standing desks help reduce the risk of sedentary lifestyle-related issues such as back pain, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. They promote better posture, enhance energy levels, and can even improve focus and productivity. As more studies highlight the drawbacks of prolonged sitting, adopting adjustable standing desks becomes essential for anyone looking to create a healthier, more dynamic work environment.
Despite all the apparent benefits of standing desks, I wasn’t sure they would be a good fit for me because I find standing for long periods painful. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been testing the FlexiSpot E7 Pro, a high-end option that might have changed my mind.

The FlexiSpot E7 Pro's solid steel construction supports a remarkable weight capacity of 160 kilograms, likely more than most users will ever need. This ensures that the desk remains stable, no matter how much equipment you place on it. Each leg's drive motors contribute to the desk's excellent stability.
The desk’s C-shaped design is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Despite being made of composite materials, the desktop has a polished finish that looks like real wood. Its 2.5cm thickness adds to its solid feel, and while you can use your own top, the FlexiSpot comes with pre-drilled holes for the legs.

The FlexiSpot E7 Pro was delivered in two parts: the desktop and then, a few days later, the frame. Each component was carefully packed and labelled, making the assembly process straightforward. The instructions were clear, and the included tool fitted all the screws and bolts, which is handy for those who might not have any tools. However, if you own a power tool, I’d suggest using it as it makes the assembly a little easier.
While the assembly is straightforward, the legs and top are extremely heavy. I managed to do it on my own, but I’d recommend getting a hand. The solid steel frame and the hefty parts require a lot of effort, but once assembled, the desk is incredibly sturdy.
I went with the 180 cm by 80 cm maple top, which has enough room for my desktop PC and two large monitors. FlexiSpot offers great choices of desktops in various sizes and finishes.

I could never use a standing-only desk, but the ability to toggle between standing and sitting is a game-changer. The E7 Pro ranges from 63.5 cm to 128.5 cm, accommodating users of varying heights.
The desk features a rectangular control panel with a small display showing the height in centimetres. The controls are intuitive and easy to use, allowing quick yet fine adjustments. You can also set four custom heights in memory, making it convenient to switch between your preferred sitting and standing positions with a single button.
Unlike a normal desk with a fixed height, the ability to make micro-adjustments to find the sweet spot that matches your chair makes a massive difference to comfort and overall ergonomics. I set the optimum height based on my chair height and keyboard and mouse position on the desk, saving it as position 1. I set the desk height slightly higher for gaming with a controller since my hands didn’t need to rest on the desktop. This allowed me to have the monitor at a better height while playing my favourite games and relaxing in my chair.
I used the desk for both work and hobbies, setting and saving the third memory slot for work and a slightly higher fourth slot for hobbies. Standing at the desk allows free room around the room without the hindrance of a chair.

Operating the desk is a smooth experience, and the motors are quiet. The desk transitions between heights in a matter of seconds, which is great, but for safety, it will stop if it meets resistance. The desk's stability at the lowest and highest settings is impressive; there is no wobble or shake, even with significant weight. However, to ensure stability, there are four adjustable feet, and setting them correctly is important.
The E7 Pro includes a magnetic concealed cable management box and various under-desk slots and storage options, ensuring your workspace remains tidy and clutter-free.
Another thoughtful inclusion is the USB-A port, which allows you to charge your devices directly from the desk. This small but practical feature adds to the overall convenience of using the E7 Pro.

After using the FlexiSpot E7 Pro for several weeks, I have noticed an improvement in my work experience. The ability to switch between sitting and standing has helped reduce fatigue and discomfort associated with long hours of sitting. From my experience, alternating between sitting and standing throughout the day keeps me more alert and productive.
The FlexiSpot E7 Pro standing desk is a worthwhile investment for anyone serious about their workspace ergonomics and productivity. Its robust construction, thoughtful design features, and performance make it an excellent option for those who spend a lot of time at their desk.
For those who might not need as much space or weight capacity, FlexiSpot offers other models like the E7 and E5, which are more budget-friendly. However, for those willing to invest in a premium standing desk, the E7 Pro is an excellent choice that I wholeheartedly recommend.
