More power, less battery consumption. And it's waterproof.

That's what Chinese company Huawei promised yesterday at the launch of its flagship Huawei Mate20 Pro.

Huawei is now the second biggest manufacturer in the world of smartphones, surpassing Apple in unit sales. Its Mate20 Pro powered by a cutting-edge 7nm processor, promises more power with less battery consumption. This will mean more battery at the end of a day due to the new central processing unit, and a better battery.

The P20 Pro was one of Huawei’s most successful phones in Ireland when it launched earlier this year, but the Mate20 Pro, which is aimed at those who need more performance from their smartphones, looks set to push the boundaries of what’s possible by using AI to make everyday tasks easier.

The Mate20 Pro is the world’s first phone to come with a dual neural processing unit or AI chip, which further improves image processing tasks to enable users take better photos with the single click of a button. This allows for real time object recognition, with more detail and precision.

The Mate20 Pro’s battery can be charged with Huawei’s new charger that allows you to go from an incredible 0% to 70% in 30 minutes using a maximum of 40W. This new charging feature is certified making it safe. Also new from the previous Mate10 Pro is wireless charging, which is capable of 15W of high-efficiency wireless charging. To put this into context, that’s 160% faster than iPhone X wireless charging. Along with the wireless charging, Huawei has introduced a totally new feature called Wireless Reverse Charging. Essentially, this allows you to turn the Mate20 Pro into a wireless charging pad that can charge other wireless capable phones like the iPhone X or Samsung S9. So you can give your friends a quick top up with your Mate20 Pro.

The brand new Leica triple cameras on the Mate20 Pro has a wide angle lens, a telephoto lens with 3x optical and 5x hybrid zoom. And, the third camera is an ultra wide angle (16mm) lens allowing users to get more into a shot making it great for landscapes or those occasions where you want to get everyone including the scene into the photo.

AI is key in making the Mate20 Pro’s easier to simply click and take great photos and all with the flexibility of a zoom range from 16mm to 270mm.

The Huawei Mate20 Pro available to buy in November for €899.
