Chinese computer maker Legend Group has unveiled what it says is China’s fastest supercomputer in a bid to join the elite of computer manufacturers.

Legend said its Deepcomp 1800 would rank 24th in speed among the world’s supercomputers, surpassed only by equipment made by US or Japanese companies.

Legend, owned by the state-run Chinese Academy of Sciences, is one of the most prominent parts of China’s campaign to promote high-tech industries ranging from computers to genetic engineering.
