HP ditches Microsoft Works Suite
Computer maker, Hewlett-Packard has dealt the world's number one software maker a significant blow.
Corel, Microsoft's main competitor has announced that HP is replacing Microsoft's Works Suite, the paired down version of Microsoft Office Suite with Corel's Word Perfect on its consumer PC's.
Only last week, Dell Computers announced that it was also switching from Microsoft Works and would offer an alternative instead.
Microsoft has been facing a series of anti trust charges, and reports indicate that many PC manufacturers are becoming fed up with the company's dominance in the desktop software market in which Microsoft owns 90 percent of the market share.
Corel's latest office suite, WordPerfect 2002 which also contains a word processor, spreadsheet and other similar components contained in Microsoft Office, costs almost USD80 cheaper than Microsoft 's offering, presenting PC makers with an added advantage of lower costs.
