The state-run Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has revealed plans to create free WiFi zones at the base camp of Mt. Everest, as noted in a report from Stuff.

The free WiFi zones will be introduced to facilitate communicates from Mt. Everest and to assist emergency services during rescue operations.

Mt. Everest’s base camp stands 5360 metres (17,600 feet) above sea level, making it the highest location on Earth at which free WiFi services will be available.

A number of hotels and restaurants in the base camp area currently offer WiFi at a rate of up to $5 per hour.
