The US Department of Defense has uploaded a video showcasing its use of a swarm of micro-drones during a training exercise held last October.
DoD Launches First Micro-Drone Swarm

Measuring around six inches each, 103 Perdix micro-drones were launched from three F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets for a short control test. The drones are designed for low-altitude intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

In a statement released on Monday, the DoD revealed that the Perdix drones are not “pre-programmed synchronized individuals”, and instead act as a collective organism. The micro-drones are capable of advanced swarm behaviours including collective decision-making, adaptive formation flying and self-healing.
