Fantastic Beasts rules the box office

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them won the weekend box office, to the surprise of no one.

Warner Bros new movie set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter and expectations were naturally high for its opening weekend. The film dragged in $75 million at the box office in the US, which is actually the lowest domestic opening ever in the series.

The first film nabbed $90 million back in 2001 and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 managed almost $170 million!

Now Fantastic Beasts is an entirely new story and doesn't have a massively successful series of books for that inbuilt audience. Still worldwide figures are much more impressive, with $218 million already.

Whatever way you look at it, the film is going to be a big success for Warner Bros, which is just as well as there are plans for a total of five movies in this new series, and none of them are going to come cheap.
