Westworld behind the scenes- this looks great

Westworld is a new show on the way from HBO and while it has its root in the original movie there's a lot more going on.
Westworld behind the scenes- this looks great

Michael Crichton's 1973 movie Westworld still has some pretty interesting things to say about the potential of AI and the nature of our pursuit of escapism but it's also a rather stuffy and slow by modern standards, and doesn't explore the themes as deeply as it might.

Crichton's core idea is now being used as the inspiration for a new show by HBO and the combination of a large budget, a new creative team and an incredible cast might make this the new show to beat.

Here's a look behind the scenes at the kinds of ideas the series is going to deal with, complete with words from the creatives and cast.

This show was developed by wife and husband team Lisa Joy and Jonathan (brother of Chris) Nolan and J.J. Abrams is on board as an executive producer.

There's also a cast including Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, James Marsden, Tessa Thompson and Ed Harris, and HBO's license to push the adult material far beyond network TV. We've even heard the production got into trouble while filming a mass orgy scene...

The early reviews have been massively positive and we can't wait to see how this first season turns out.

Westword debuts on HBO on the 2nd of October, 2016.
