Domino's is planning to deliver pizzas via drone

Domino’s Pizza in New Zealand is hoping to start delivering pizzas via drone.

Before that can happen, however, it still needs to get regulatory approval from New Zealand's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Domino’s and the drone delivery company that it has partnered with, Flirtey, say that they expect to be able to start trial deliveries later this year. This is based on them actually getting the go-ahead from the CAA.

Domino's Group CEO and Managing Director, Don Meij said in a statement, "These trial deliveries will help provide the insight we need to extend the weight carried by the drone and distance travelled. It is this insight that we hope will lead to being able to consider a drone delivery option for the majority of our orders."

For now, you’ll need to wait for your delivery driver to navigate traffic and find where you live. But maybe someday we’ll be looking to the sky, waiting for our food to arrive.
