New Xbox One S bundles arriving next month with free FIFA

Gamescom in Cologne kicks off in earnest tomorrow but the annoucements have already started.

Microsoft was out at the event with some new information about their Xbox One S console. It's a smaller and niftier version of the Xbox One, which support 4K video playback and even ultra HD blu-rays, plus HDR if you've got the rig for it.

The console quietly launched a couple of weeks back in a special version with a 2 terabyte hard drive. Smaller storage options were always planned and now they've been confirmed in two sizes- 500 gig and 1 terabyte, set to launch on the 22nd of September 2016.

These bundles will both contain a copy of EA's FIFA 17 (which is sure to sell a few consoles) and with a month of EA Access free. Pricing will likely be around €300 and €350 respectively. That's roughly in line with US pricing.

As for whether this will be a success for Microsoft, they did rather scupper themselves by announcing a more powerful console launching in late 2017, making it upgrading at this stage a difficult pitch for consumers.
