Fantastic Beasts 2 will be out in 2018

You're probably aware that the Harry Potter universe is coming back to the big screen with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them this November, but did you know that it's the first of a planned new trilogy from this wizarding world?

Well it is and you can be sure that Warner Bros will be keen to keep momentum up once the first film explodes into cinemas. And so it comes to pass, with Fantastic Beasts 2 (or whatever it ends up being called) already set to release on the 16th of November 2016.

There's no chance that the first film won't be a huge hit, coming at a time when Potter fans have been starved of big screen releases for years and fresh from the hype of the stageplay The Cursed Child. The books are being reissued and the world is coming alive again, and that means serious box office dollars.

So a release date for the sequel also makes a lot of sense, and a two year gap is pretty standard for major franchises. It does mean that returning director David Yates is going to remain very busy as he's likely already in pre production for the major film for shooting in 2017. Of course the fellow has form, as this will mark his sixth Potter film, in a theatrical career almost exclusively dedicated to magical goings on, and also a forgettable Tarzan flick.

Fantastic Beasts 1 is set for a November 18th, 2016 release.
