Niantic to take back glitched Pokemon Go legendaries

Niantic's PR firm Fortyseven Communications has said that legendary Pokémon will be revoked from Pokémon Go Trainer accounts.

Over the past few days there have been reports that Pokémon Go players managed to get their hands on a legendary Articuno. It turns out that they did indeed get them, but they shouldn't have and Niantic plans to revoke them from their accounts.

Chris Kramer, VP of Fortyseven Communications, one of two firms that handles Niantic’s public relations, told Geek.com that it was an error that Articunos got out into players' accounts. “We recently noticed that a few Legendary Pokémon got into a few accounts when they shouldn’t have," he said.

"To preserve the game’s integrity and as a measure of fairness, we have rectified the situation and revoked the legendary Pokémon from the Trainers’ accounts.”

The Articunos have caused all sorts of controversy and in-fighting in the Pokémon Go community. Players fired all sorts of accusations at an Ohio woman, coming up with multiple reasons as to why it couldn't be authentic. A livestream showing off the Pokémon put an end to any doubt over its legitimacy, but didn't stop fans from being unhappy.

Its captor, Kaitlyn Covey, claimed that she had been gifted it by Niantic after sending an e-mail complaining about an issue. If this were the case, there would more than likely be many more Articunos running around the place.
