Channing Tatum will be a sexy merman in Splash remake
Channing Tatum has been attached to star in a new version of 1984s Splash. The original saw Tom Hanks fall for the half fish Daryl Hannah and we're getting a gender flip this time- Tatum will be the merman while 22 Jump Streets Jillian Bell is the landlubber.
That's reason enough for a new take, and Tatum is a great pick for the literal fish out of water element. He's also been really pushing his comedy talents in recent years and together with Bridesmaids and Eastbound & Down alum Bell this should be a much funnier version of the story.
A new script is already underway according to Deadline and it will be produced by Ron Howard, who directed the original more than 30 years ago, kicking cementing a career which went on to produce Cocoon, Willow, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Cinerella Man and In the Heart of the Sea.
It's early days for Splash so we wouldn't expect to see it on screens until at least 2018. No director has been chosen as yet.
