Yep - Deadpool is definitely rated R

It's actually happened. Not only are they making an honest to goodness Deadpool movie but the film has been officially rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America.

Bear in mind that this is a character which shares the exact same universe as those glossy blockbuster superhero efforts like X-Men and The Fantastic Four and even come from the same studio and that Fox has a history of, you know, crushing the dreams of fans whenever possible. But no, we're actually getting an R-rated superhero movie for the first time since... The Punisher Warzone?!

And the rating from the MPAA goes like this:

"Rated R for strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity"

Excellent

Now while we've seen violence and heard some language so far, as well as a handful of dirty jokes, the graphic nudity is a new one. Of course, when it comes to the MPAA the nude moments don't need to be all that explicit to earn that kind of rating but it's definitely not going to hurt the chances of this kind of film picking up viewers.

Deadpool is part of the X-Men universe but it's also a rather cheaper film than the rest of its stablemates, and that's actually a good film. Provided director Tim Miller keeps the scale a little smaller he'll have that bit more freedom to really get to grips with the excesses of the character. Plus there's even a chance that a lower cost action film might make some money, and maybe we'll even get to see Ryan Reynolds suiting up as this really inappropriate superhero again some day.

Deadpool is in cinemas in February 2016.
