George Miller now saying he's done with Mad Max

Mad Max Fury Road may have been left out of the Golden Globes but the film is still a resounding success with audiences and critics around the world, and easily one of the best flicks of last year. Ever since the film released, director George Miller has been talking about multiple sequels and potential for more Max madness. Now he's changed his mind.

The 70 year old filmmaker, who released his first Mad Max movie more than 35 years ago, has been quoted by Page Six as saying:

"I’ve shot in Australia in a field of wild flowers and flat red earth when it rained heavily forever. We had to wait 18 months and every return to the US was 27 hours. Those ‘Mad Maxes’ take forever. I won’t do those anymore."

That's a pretty big change from what he was saying only last week, especially as the likes of Tom Hardy are contracted in for multiple movies. The format is pretty strange as well, there's no context for the conversation as the quote is just thrown into a piece also mentioning Son of Saul and Ricky Gervais. Presumably these pieces were snatched from some chats during the Golden Globes in LA at the weekend and maybe Miller was feeling a bit under the weather.

He's not a young man and made it clear that he wants his next film to be a smaller project, maybe that will be enough to cleanse his brain and get things back in gear for more motor powered mayhem. Or perhaps it's best for the series to go out with a bang on a film which everyone assumed would be a total disaster and instead ended up as a triumph. Miller can stay on board as a creative lead and producer and let some another filmmaker bear the burden of those 27 hour commutes.

Time will tell. For the moment, go watch Fury Road again!
