Facebook has announced that it has abandoned Adobe Flash for videos, switching over to HTML5 instead.

The company said that this "best enables us to continue to innovate quickly and at scale, given Facebook’s large size and complex needs."

Older browsers didn't work so well with this new standard, resulting in more bugs and longer load times. "That's why we waited until today to ship the HTML5 player to all browsers by default," Facebook's Daniel Baulig wrote in a blog post.
