Vodafone launches LightSpeed Broadband connection

Vodafone will today begin the rollout of LightSpeed Broadband, its new high-speed fibre broadband that will boast a minimum speed of 350 megabits.

Carrigaline will be the first of 51 regional urban “fibre-hoods” to get access to LightSpeed Broadband. Dundalk and Sligo will also get access to this high-speed broadband early on.

Vodafone says that its LightSpeed customers will get access to broadband speeds of up to 1,000 megabits, ten times faster than many fibre packages currently available. Its home packages offer a minimum speed of 350 megabits.

LightSpeed Broadband bundles start at €49, while a one gigabit package costs €111. Businesses can get an unlimited package, bundled with voice, for €129.

This is all possible thanks to the €450 million development of the Siro fibre network in conjunction with ESB. It utilises fibre strung across ESB electricity poles and wired directly into the side of buildings. Interestingly, Siro is not aimed at large cities, but more at towns in regional areas.

Towns currently on the agenda to get access to Siro include Carrigaline, Cavan, Dundalk, Westport, Castlebar, Sligo, Tralee, Navan, Letterkenny and Wexford.
