Apple buys Star Wars motion capture company

Faceshift, the motion capture company whose technology has been used to give The Force Awakens’ alien characters more realistic facial expressions, has been bought by Apple.

While Apple confirmed the acquisition, it wasn’t too willing to share details about what it has in mind. Apple told TechCrunch, “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

Apple has previously acquired three other companies operating in the same field: PrimeSense, Polar Rose and Metaio. It’s thought that Faceshift has been on Apple’s radar for some time. It will be interesting to see what Apple has in store for the company and its technology.
